The Packers and Stockyard Act

Navigation:  Home > Agriculture Law> Packers and Stockyard Act

The Packers and Stockyard Act is a competition, trade practice, and financial protection law. The purpose of the law is to maintain effective trade competition and fair trade practices in the livestock, meat, and poultry marketing. It also protects these industries from unfair trade practices and monopolistic practices of competitors. The Packers and Stockyard Act further protects consumers against unfair business practices in the marketing of meats and against restrictions on competition which might raise the price of meats.
