Green Cards

Green Cards: There are several types of green cards, which allow people to come into the United States to live permanently, mostly for people sponsored by their companies, people who are related to someone in the United States, or for those seeking political asylum.

Employment Green Cards: If you are seeking employment in the United States, it is much easier to come in if you are a skilled worker or a professional, but not very easy for unskilled workers. In general, those who get employment green cards must get sponsorship from an American company, which is easier to get in technical jobs or jobs that require foreign language skills. Jobs requiring at least two years experience make it easier and quicker to get a green card.

Family Green Card (or Family Sponsorship): For people related to someone in the United States, permanent residents can apply to sponsor someone like a parent, spouse, or child to come to the United States with a green card.

Green Card Lottery: The Green Card Lottery is an annual lottery drawing program run by the U.S. Department of State. The lottery gives people from countries with low U.S. immigration a chance to immigrate to the United States even if they don't have close relatives or a job offer in the U.S. The program offers up to 55,000 permanent resident visas each year to applicants selected through a random computer generated lottery drawing.
